Russell Friese

Assistant Head (Pastoral and Inclusion) and Head of Sport

I believe physical education should be focused on nurturing a lifelong love of sport and physical activity and developing skills through positive experiences. With 17 years teaching experience in both the independent and state sectors, I always aim to provide a balance between participation and performance, whilst giving pupils the opportunity to try out a variety of sports and activities in progressive, differentiated lessons that allow pupils to progress at their own pace.

My pastoral aims are to identify and meet the diverse needs of the children; to create a safe, purposeful and happy atmosphere which encourages and reinforces positive behaviour; to foster positive relationships across the school community; to foster the emotional development of the child; to create a responsive and effective learning environment; to acknowledge and value the achievement of children and to build self-esteem and self-confidence; to develop independence and interdependence; to develop an understanding in the children of how their behaviour impacts upon themselves and others and to support children’s moral and social development.
