We place lots of value on outdoor learning and feel strongly that it is a crucial element to our young children’s learning so we ensure our pupils have access to our outdoor areas daily and in addition, visit Kensington Memorial Park several times a week.

Over the past few years Bassett House has been working together with Growing Space to provide the children with a sustainable and organic garden. Our garden area includes a sand pit, raised plant boxes, wormery, log seats and climbing frame. There are further exciting plans in the pipeline including a covered outdoor learning area, mud kitchen and unique painted mural.

The children relish the opportunity to interact with nature and we have regular sessions with our Environmental Coordinator Pascale who inspires a deeper appreciation and a greater sense of responsibility for our environment. The garden provides the opportunity for many experiences, skills and challenges including the basics of gardening and an introduction into the world of plants. The children have the opportunity to develop their hand-eye coordination by using tools, weeding and watering. But most of all, we have lots of fun! In addition to the access during term time there are also opportunities for the children to get involved with the wider community project in the garden during holidays and weekends.
