A Visit from the Author Tom McLaughlin
On Tuesday, as part of our celebrations leading up to World Book Day, Years 1–5 welcomed Tom McLaughlin to Bassett. Tom is a talented author and illustrator, known for his books such as The Accidental Prime Minister and The Story Machine.
Tom talked to the children about what inspired him to become an illustrator, which eventually led to him creating his own children’s books. He then read extracts from some of his work. A particular highlight was listening to a cat rap from his graphic novel Alan, King of the Universe.
We were also lucky enough to be shown how he creates his illustrations, drawing live for us. We would highly recommend reading Tom’s books and know that the children had so much fun listening to him!
We hope that his visit has inspired the children to get into the reading spirit for Book Week and sparked lots of creative writing and drawing ideas for the Bassett Book Competition.
