“I am a passionate believer in the endless possibilities of empowering children to explore learning on their own terms, with a teachers’ role being one of facilitators to learning. Building independence in pupils, inviting questions of the content covered and encouraging questions that span traditional subject paradigms is something that brings huge benefit to pupils, and I believe that this is an exciting time for education to deliver teaching that truly inspires our pupils to be the very best they can be in whatever they choose to do.”
Matt has worked in broad range of independent schools in the London and surrounding areas, from Ascot, Windsor, Surrey and London boroughs. Starting as a class teacher, Matt took on Head of Department roles for both Mathematics and History, preparing children for 13+ scholarships to top independent senior schools throughout the country, then moved into educational leadership first as Deputy Head, and then as Headteacher in two schools, introducing 1:1 Apple devices through both schools, and developing new curriculum frameworks to raise pupil achievement and increase children’s engagement with their learning.
Matt grew up in Dorset before moving to university in Cardiff and then slowly moving closer and closer to central London. Having acknowledged his limitations in team sports as age has crept in, he enjoys running, although retains a keen interest in rugby and American football. He discovered a hidden joy in baking bread during lockdown, as well as enjoying film and reading historical non-fiction.
